Fire Academy: Day Three

The lads are TV stars. The local Fox affiliate came by and shot video of the recruits. They did a great job pretending to be very interested in my lecture. We finally finished up the ICS and NIMS modules required by the Department of Homeland Security. Today is hazardous matrials awareness. For the last 20 minutes of the day I have them shut their books and we have a talk about any issue they want. Yesterday we talked about initiative. As recruits, once they get out to thier assignment, it will be critical to thier success that they take some initiative to do things around the station. Enough of this feel good stuff. The next blog will be on why the Nazi party was so successful.

Oh come on Kris, It was the uniforms. Everybody knew the brown shirts didn't stand a chance when the black uniforms started showing up. The only people that were close were the Italians but they surrendered faster than the French once someone gave them a swift boot in the butt. If the Italians had been worth half of what the Germans were the Nazi's could have held half of Europe. If my history holds, it was the Ethiopians that scared the Italians. The US and English forces in North Africa just ran through them like a hot knife through butter. The other failure the Nazi's had was they really had goals that were more like ours except they had those damn ovens and some wierd hatred of the jews. There was a time if the US had left the Germans alone or even helped them a little we could have ended the Soviets 50 years earlier than we did. I don't excuse the death of 7 million jews, poles, Russiand and Gypsies. On the other hand there are a lot of people that turn their faces away from the Stalin Purges that proibably killed damn near that many. Oh well, If you can read this, thank a Teacher. If you can read this in english thank a soldier.
